Hair fall and hair loss treatment in Gurgaon
Hair fall has many causes, and each one is treated differently. Dermatologist and trichologist Dr. Tanya Kochhar starts with a scalp examination under trichoscopy, then builds a plan around what is actually driving your hair loss.
How is hair loss treated in Gurgaon?
Hair loss is treated according to its cause, found through a scalp examination under trichoscopy and blood tests where indicated. At Le Dermaire, Dr. Tanya Kochhar builds a medical plan, adding procedures such as PRP or GFC where useful. Shedding usually settles in about 3 months, with fuller results judged over 6 to 12 months.
Hair fall treatment, in short
Typical figures, not promises. Your own plan depends on the type of hair loss, how long it has been going on and what your tests show.
Why hair falls out
Losing 50 to 100 hairs a day is normal, because every follicle goes through cycles of growth, rest and shedding. Hair fall becomes a concern when shedding clearly increases, the parting widens, the hairline recedes or bald patches appear.
The word hair fall usually describes shedding, while hair loss describes thinning that stays. The two often overlap. Genetics, hormones, recent illness or stress, nutritional gaps, thyroid problems and scalp conditions can each be responsible, and more than one is often at work in the same person.
Sudden patchy loss, hair loss with scalp pain, scarring or redness, or hair fall in a child should be examined promptly rather than treated with over-the-counter products.
Types of hair loss we see
Naming the type correctly matters more than any single product, because each responds to different treatment.
Male pattern hair loss
Androgenetic alopecia in men: a receding hairline and thinning crown, driven by genetics and the effect of DHT on sensitive follicles. Earlier treatment preserves more hair.
Female pattern hair loss
Diffuse thinning over the top of the scalp with a widening parting, usually with the front hairline kept. PCOS and other hormonal factors are checked where relevant.
Telogen effluvium
Sudden heavy shedding two to three months after a trigger such as fever, surgery, childbirth, crash dieting or major stress. It usually recovers once the trigger is addressed.
Alopecia areata
An autoimmune condition causing smooth, round bald patches on the scalp, beard or eyebrows. Many patches regrow, and treatment can speed this up.
Nutritional and thyroid causes
Low iron stores, vitamin D or B12, and an under- or overactive thyroid can all increase shedding. These are tested for only when your history points that way.
Dandruff and scalp conditions
Seborrhoeic dermatitis, dandruff and scalp psoriasis cause itching and flaking and can worsen shedding. Treating the scalp is part of treating the hair.

Consultation and trichoscopy
Dr. Tanya takes a detailed history, including diet, medicines, periods and recent illness, then examines the scalp and hair shafts under trichoscopy to identify the pattern.
Tests where needed
If the history or examination suggests it, blood tests such as thyroid function, iron studies and vitamin levels are advised, so that treatable internal causes are not missed.
Your treatment plan
Medical treatment usually forms the base. In-clinic procedures such as PRP, GFC, mesotherapy, PRF or laser may be added where they suit the diagnosis. You get the plan and a quote in writing.
Review and follow-up
Progress is reviewed every few months with repeat photographs and trichoscopy, and the plan is adjusted. Maintenance is planned for conditions that are long term.
Hair loss treatment options explained
Medical treatment is the foundation for most types of hair loss. Depending on the diagnosis this may include topical minoxidil, prescription oral medicines, anti-dandruff or anti-inflammatory scalp treatments, and supplements where a deficiency has been confirmed. These are prescribed and monitored by the doctor, not chosen off a shelf.
PRP and GFC use growth factors concentrated from your own blood, injected into the thinning areas of the scalp. They are most useful in early to moderate pattern hair loss, alongside medical treatment. Mesotherapy and PRF are further scalp-injection options that may suit some patients.
Non-ablative fractional Er:YAG laser treats the scalp with gentle, controlled micro-injury intended to stimulate follicles, with little or no downtime. Like the other procedures, it is an add-on to medical treatment rather than a replacement for it.
Where hair loss is advanced and follicles are no longer active, no injection or laser can regrow them. Dr. Tanya will tell you honestly if that is the case, and discuss whether a referral for hair transplant assessment makes sense.
Medical treatment or PRP and GFC?
This is rarely an either-or choice. Medicines form the base for most hair loss, and procedures are added where they suit the diagnosis.
| Medical treatment | PRP and GFC | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Topical and oral medicines, scalp treatments and supplements for confirmed deficiencies. | Growth factors concentrated from your own blood, injected into thinning areas of the scalp. |
| Best for | Pattern hair loss, telogen effluvium with a treatable cause, scalp conditions. | Early to moderate pattern hair loss where follicles are still active. |
| How often | Daily at home, continued long term for pattern hair loss. | A course of sessions about a month apart, then maintenance every few months. |
| When change shows | Shedding slows in about 3 months; density over 6 to 12 months. | Usually judged after the initial course, over several months. |
| Downtime | None. | Scalp tenderness or mild swelling for a day. |
| Limits | Needs consistency; stopping usually lets thinning resume. | Does not replace medicines and cannot regrow hair on fully bald areas. |
Which combination suits you depends on your type of hair loss and how far it has progressed, and is set out in your written plan.
Hair fall treatment cost in Gurgaon
The cost depends on the cause of your hair loss, whether tests are needed, and whether in-clinic procedures are added to medical treatment. You receive a written quote after the consultation, before any procedure is booked.
Why diagnosis saves money
Many people spend months on oils, shampoos or procedure packages before anyone has confirmed why their hair is falling. Telogen effluvium often settles once its trigger is found, and a thyroid or iron problem needs treating at the source. Knowing the cause first avoids paying for treatment that was never going to work.
What to expect from hair loss treatment
Hair grows roughly a centimetre a month, so even effective treatment takes time to show. Most people notice shedding slowing first, usually within about three months, with thicker coverage building over six to twelve months.
Some medicines can cause a temporary increase in shedding in the first weeks, as resting hairs make way for new growth. This is expected and is not a reason to stop without speaking to your doctor.
Pattern hair loss is a long-term condition. Treatment can slow it, stabilise it and often improve density, but stopping usually allows thinning to resume. The aim is control that you can keep up comfortably.
Tell the clinic if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, as several hair loss medicines are not suitable at these times.
Common triggers of sudden hair fall
Heavy shedding that starts suddenly usually follows a trigger by two to three months, which is why the cause is often missed.
Fever and illness
Dengue, typhoid, COVID and other illnesses with high fever commonly cause shedding two to three months later. It usually settles over the following months.
After childbirth
Hair that stayed in the growth phase during pregnancy sheds together a few months after delivery. Most of it regrows, though iron and thyroid are worth checking.
Crash dieting
Rapid weight loss and low-protein diets deprive follicles of what they need. Shedding often follows a few months after the diet started.
Medicines and stress
Some medicines, stopping hormonal pills, surgery and severe emotional stress can all push many hairs into the shedding phase at once.
Habits that help, and ones to avoid
Helps
- A balanced diet with enough protein, iron and vitamins, especially if you are vegetarian.
- Washing the scalp regularly, more often in Gurgaon's heat and humidity if it gets oily or itchy.
- Using prescribed treatment consistently for the full period advised.
- Seeing a dermatologist early, when more follicles can still be saved.
Avoid
- Crash diets and very low-protein diets, a common trigger of sudden shedding.
- Tight hairstyles, frequent heat styling and harsh chemical treatments.
- Starting supplements or hair medicines on your own without tests.
- Stopping treatment abruptly once hair improves, without a maintenance plan.
Hair loss assessed by a dermatologist and trichologist
Hair and scalp disorders are part of dermatology training, and hair loss is frequently a sign of something else: a thyroid problem, anaemia, PCOS, an autoimmune condition or a scalp disease. A dermatologist practising as a hair specialist can read these signs on trichoscopy, order the right tests, prescribe the medicines that work, and recognise scarring hair loss that needs urgent treatment.

She is registered with the National Medical Commission and the Delhi Medical Council.
Hair fall and hair loss FAQs
How do I know what is causing my hair fall?
The cause is found through a detailed history and a scalp examination under trichoscopy, which magnifies the scalp and hair shafts. This helps distinguish pattern hair loss, telogen effluvium, alopecia areata and scalp conditions. Blood tests for thyroid, iron and vitamin levels are added only when the history or examination suggests an internal cause.
Can hair loss be cured permanently?
It depends on the cause. Telogen effluvium usually recovers fully once the trigger is addressed, and many alopecia areata patches regrow. Pattern hair loss, male or female, is a long-term genetic condition: it can be slowed, stabilised and often improved, but it needs ongoing treatment to maintain the result.
How much does hair fall treatment cost in Gurgaon?
At Le Dermaire the cost depends on your diagnosis, whether tests are needed and whether procedures such as PRP or GFC are added to medical treatment. It is quoted in writing after the consultation. The consultation fee is Rs 1,800, including trichoscopy. There are no charges that are not quoted to you first.
How long does hair loss treatment take to work?
Most people see shedding slow within about three months, with visible improvement in density over six to twelve months. Hair grows slowly, so treatment is judged over months rather than weeks. Some medicines briefly increase shedding at first, which is expected and usually settles on its own.
Should I see a dermatologist or a trichologist for hair fall?
A dermatologist is a medical doctor trained in skin, hair and nail disease, and can diagnose, order tests and prescribe medicines. Dr. Tanya Kochhar is a dermatologist who also practises as a trichologist, so your hair specialist consultation covers both the medical diagnosis and procedures such as PRP, GFC and laser.
Does PRP or GFC work for hair loss?
PRP and GFC can help early to moderate pattern hair loss, especially when combined with medical treatment. They work best where follicles are still active and are not a substitute for medicines. They do not regrow hair on completely bald areas, and are not suitable for every type of hair loss.
Is hair fall in women caused by PCOS or thyroid?
Sometimes. PCOS can cause female pattern thinning, and thyroid disorders, low iron and vitamin deficiencies can all increase shedding. Many women have more than one factor. Relevant blood tests are advised at consultation when your history suggests them, and any hormonal cause is treated alongside the hair.
Can stress cause hair fall?
Yes. Severe stress, illness, surgery or a major life event can push many hairs into the resting phase at once, causing heavy shedding about two to three months later. This is called telogen effluvium. It usually settles once the trigger has passed, but other causes such as thyroid or iron problems are checked if it continues.
Why is my hair falling out after dengue, typhoid or COVID?
High fever and serious illness commonly trigger telogen effluvium, with heavy shedding starting two to three months later. It looks alarming but usually recovers over the following months. A consultation helps confirm the diagnosis, check for low iron or vitamin levels, and rule out pattern hair loss that the shedding may have revealed.
Is hair loss treatment different for men and women?
Partly. Pattern hair loss affects men and women differently: men lose hair at the hairline and crown, women usually thin over the top with a widening parting. Some medicines suit only one sex, and women are more often checked for iron, thyroid and PCOS. Both have dedicated guides linked on this page.
