Acne scar treatment in Gurgaon

Combination treatment for pitted and uneven acne scars, planned by dermatologist Dr. Tanya Kochhar. Each scar type responds to different methods, so the plan is built from what your skin actually shows.

Quick answer

How are acne scars treated in Gurgaon?

Acne scars are treated with a combination of methods matched to each scar type, such as subcision, microneedling, MNRF, fractional laser and peels. At Le Dermaire, Dr. Tanya Kochhar controls active acne first, then plans typically 3 to 6 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Scars become shallower and less visible, though not erased.

What it does

Improvement, not erasure

Acne scars form when deep inflammation destroys collagen in the skin. Where too little collagen is rebuilt, the surface is left dented; where too much is made, the scar is raised. Scar treatment works by releasing tethered scars, stimulating new collagen and smoothing the surface so that light falls more evenly across the skin.

A well-planned course makes scars noticeably shallower and the skin smoother, and most people find makeup sits better and they feel less self-conscious. It does not return scarred skin to how it was before acne. Anyone promising complete removal is overselling.

Active acne must be controlled before scar treatment begins. Every new pimple can create a new scar, and procedures on inflamed skin carry a higher risk of infection and dark marks.

Types of acne scars

Most people have a mix of scar types, and each needs a different tool. This is why a single treatment rarely gives a good result on its own.

Ice pick scars

Narrow, deep pits that look like large open pores. They reach deep into the skin and respond best to focused methods such as fractional laser and targeted peel techniques.

Boxcar scars

Wider, flat-bottomed depressions with sharp edges, common on the cheeks and temples. Treated with MNRF, fractional laser and sometimes subcision or biofiller.

Rolling scars

Broad, gentle dips that give the skin a wavy look, caused by bands pulling the surface down. Subcision to release the bands is usually the key step.

Hypertrophic scars

Raised, firm scars, more common on the jawline, chest and back. These are flattened with other methods, such as intralesional injection, rather than resurfacing.

Treatment options

Acne scar treatments at Le Dermaire

The options used for acne scars at the clinic, often combined across a course.

Subcision

A fine needle is passed under the scar to cut the fibrous bands tethering it down. Especially useful for rolling scars, and often combined with PRF or biofiller.

Microneedling

Controlled micro-injuries with a dermapen trigger new collagen across the treated area. Low risk for Indian skin and suited to mild to moderate scarring.

Microneedling radiofrequency

MNRF delivers radiofrequency heat through fine needles into the deeper skin, giving stronger collagen remodelling for boxcar and rolling scars with limited surface injury.

Fractional laser

Treats a grid of microscopic columns of skin, leaving healthy skin in between for faster healing. Resurfaces and tightens for boxcar and ice pick scars.

PRF and biofiller

PRF, prepared from your own blood, supports healing and collagen after subcision or needling. Biofiller can lift individual depressed scars.

Chemical peels

Peels smooth texture and even out the dark marks that often sit alongside scars. Used between procedures or as part of a combination plan.

At Le Dermaire

How treatment works

A staged course, with each session planned from how your skin healed after the last.

1

Consultation

Dr. Tanya checks whether acne is still active, maps your scars by type and depth under good lighting, and asks about isotretinoin use, keloid tendency and cold sores. You get a plan and a quote.

2

Preparation

Any active acne is treated first. Your skin may be primed with a routine to reduce the risk of pigmentation after procedures, which matters for Indian skin.

3

Treatment sessions

Numbing cream is applied, and the chosen methods are performed. Sessions are usually 4 to 6 weeks apart, and the combination is adjusted as scars improve.

4

Review

Progress is compared session to session. Once you are happy with the improvement, you move to routine skin care, with occasional top-ups if needed.

Procedures

Acne scar procedures in detail

How each method is performed, what it suits and the recovery to plan for. Related treatments explained on other pages are linked below.

Microneedling for acne scars

A pen device with fine sterile needles is passed across the scarred area in several directions, with needle depth adjusted for the scar and for thinner areas such as the temples. Because no heat is involved, it suits people who want a gentle start or cannot take much downtime, and redness usually settles in 1 to 3 days. The effect per session is milder than MNRF, so it is best for shallow boxcar and mild rolling scars, or for preparing skin before stronger work.

Microneedling radiofrequency (MNRF)

Fine needles enter the skin and release radiofrequency energy at their tips, heating the deeper layer where scar collagen sits while largely sparing the surface. This makes it a useful step up for moderate boxcar and rolling scars in Indian skin, where heat at the surface carries a higher risk of dark marks. Expect tiny pinpoint marks, swelling and a sunburnt feel for 2 to 4 days. Depth and energy are reset at each session according to how the skin healed after the last.

Subcision

After local anaesthetic, a fine needle or blunt cannula is slipped in flat beneath each tethered scar and moved in a fan pattern to free the strands pulling it down. The small pocket of blood that forms helps lift the scar as it heals, and PRF is often placed in the same space to reduce the chance of the bands reattaching. Bruising for about a week is normal, so sessions are best timed away from events, and many scars need more than one round.

PRF for acne scars

Platelet-rich fibrin is made by spinning a small sample of your own blood without an anticoagulant, giving a concentrate that forms a soft gel and releases growth factors slowly. It is injected under scars after subcision, or applied to the skin during microneedling or MNRF, where it may support healing and add modest lift. Being made from your own blood it carries no allergy risk, though it adds a blood draw and a little extra swelling to the session.

Fractional laser

Fractional laser resurfaces sharp-edged boxcar and ice pick scars. How it works and what recovery involves are covered on the laser treatments page.

Biofiller

A single deep, soft scar that stays dented after subcision may be lifted with a biofiller, explained on the scar treatment page.

MNRF or fractional laser: which suits acne scars?

Both build new collagen, but they deliver energy at different depths, which changes recovery and risk.

DowntimePinpoint marks, swelling and a sunburnt feel, typically for 2 to 4 days.Redness and fine bronzing, typically for several days.
In darker Indian skinLess heat at the surface, so generally a lower risk of dark marks.Higher risk of dark patches; conservative density and strict sun care reduce it.

Why single-session offers disappoint

Acne scars improve through a series of sessions, and most faces have more than one scar type. A one-off session of a single device may help a little, but rolling scars stay tethered without subcision and deep scars need repeated remodelling. Judge a plan by whether it matches your scar types, not by the price per session.

Safety

Is acne scar treatment safe?

In trained hands, these procedures are well established. Redness, swelling and pinpoint bleeding are expected after needling, and bruising is common after subcision, settling over a few days to a week.

The main risk for Indian skin is post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation: dark patches that appear after the skin has been injured or heated too much. Conservative settings, priming, careful aftercare and strict sun protection reduce this risk. Less common complications include infection, cold sore flares and, rarely, worsening of scars in people prone to keloids.

Treatment is usually postponed during pregnancy, over active acne or infection, and in anyone with a history of keloids until assessed. Tell the clinic if you have taken isotretinoin recently, as timing of procedures is decided case by case.

Why a dermatologist

Scar treatment led by a skin specialist

Good acne scar results come from matching each scar type to the right method, knowing how hard to treat darker skin without causing pigmentation, and timing procedures safely around isotretinoin and active acne. A dermatologist can also treat the acne itself, so new scars are not forming while old ones are being improved.

Dr. Tanya Kochhar holds an MBBS from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, an MD in Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy from MGM Medical College, a DNB, and a post-doctoral fellowship in Aesthetic Dermatology (FRGUHS). She is registered with the National Medical Commission and the Delhi Medical Council.

Common questions

Acne scar treatment FAQs

Can acne scars be removed completely?

Acne scars can be improved significantly but rarely removed completely. A course of combined treatment makes scars shallower and the skin smoother, and many people find their scars much less noticeable afterwards. How much improvement is possible depends on scar type, depth and skin type, which is discussed honestly at consultation.

How many sessions of acne scar treatment will I need?

Most people need three to six sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart. Mild scarring may need fewer, while deep or widespread scars often need more, sometimes combining several methods in one session. Collagen keeps remodelling for months, so results continue to build after the last session.

How much does acne scar treatment cost in Gurgaon?

At Le Dermaire the cost depends on the methods combined, the area treated and the number of sessions your scars need, and is quoted in writing for the full course after the consultation. The consultation fee is Rs 1,800. There are no charges that are not quoted to you first.

Which is better for acne scars, MNRF or fractional laser?

Neither is better in every case. MNRF delivers heat deep in the skin with less surface injury, which suits many Indian skin types and boxcar or rolling scars. Fractional laser resurfaces the surface more strongly and helps deeper, sharp-edged scars. Many plans use both, along with subcision for tethered scars.

Is acne scar treatment painful?

Numbing cream is applied for 30 to 60 minutes before needling or laser, so most people feel pressure, warmth or prickling rather than pain. Subcision is done under local anaesthetic. The skin feels like sunburn for a day or two afterwards, and swelling or bruising can last a few days.

Can I get acne scar treatment while I still have pimples?

Active acne is usually brought under control first. Treating scars on inflamed skin raises the risk of infection and dark marks, and new pimples keep creating new scars. Mild occasional breakouts may not rule treatment out, and Dr. Tanya can treat acne and plan scar work in the same consultation.

Is acne scar treatment safe for Indian skin?

Yes, with the right methods and settings. Indian skin is more prone to dark patches after procedures, so priming, conservative energy, adequate gaps between sessions and strict sun protection are used. Microneedling, MNRF and subcision are generally well suited to darker skin types when performed carefully.
