Stretch marks treatment in Gurgaon
Treatment to soften the colour and texture of stretch marks after pregnancy, weight change, growth spurts or gym work, planned by dermatologist Dr. Tanya Kochhar. Newer red marks and older white marks respond differently, so the plan starts with which kind you have.
Can stretch marks be treated in Gurgaon?
Stretch marks can be softened, though not removed. Newer red marks respond better than older white ones. At Le Dermaire, Dr. Tanya Kochhar chooses methods by mark type and skin type, often combining laser and microneedling. Plans usually involve 4 to 6 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart, with 1 to 3 days of redness and gradual results.
Stretch marks treatment, in short
Typical figures for a course of treatment. Your own plan depends on the age, colour and extent of the marks and on your skin type.
What causes stretch marks?
Stretch marks are a type of scar in the middle layer of the skin. When skin stretches faster than it can adapt, the collagen and elastic fibres that hold it together tear and the skin repairs them in thin, flattened lines. Hormones play a large part: pregnancy, puberty and raised cortisol, including from steroid medicines, make the fibres more fragile.
They are extremely common and harmless, though many people find them distressing. The most frequent causes are pregnancy, weight gain or loss, teenage growth spurts and rapid muscle gain. Marks that appear suddenly and widely without an obvious reason, or that are broad and purple, are worth a medical check, as occasionally they point to a hormonal condition or steroid overuse.
No cream, oil or procedure can fully remove stretch marks. Treatment makes them flatter, narrower and closer to your skin colour, and results are usually better when marks are treated while they are still red.
Red and white stretch marks
The colour of a stretch mark tells us how old it is and how it is likely to respond.
Red marks (striae rubrae)
New marks that look pink, red or purple, sometimes raised and itchy. Blood vessels and active inflammation are still present, and this is when treatment tends to work best.
White marks (striae albae)
Older marks that have faded to pale or silvery lines, often slightly sunken and wrinkled. They are more stubborn and focus on improving texture and width.
Pregnancy stretch marks
Striae gravidarum, typically on the abdomen, breasts, hips and thighs. Treatment is usually started after delivery and, for most procedures, once breastfeeding is complete.
Growth and gym marks
Marks on the thighs, hips, back, upper arms and shoulders after growth spurts, weight change or muscle building. Common in both men and women.
How stretch marks are treated at the clinic
A planned course, with honest expectations set before anything starts.
Consultation
Dr. Tanya examines the marks, their colour, width and depth, asks about pregnancy, breastfeeding, steroid use and weight changes, and explains what improvement is realistic.
Plan
Methods are chosen by the type of mark and your skin type. Many plans combine laser and microneedling, and early red marks may also be given a prescription cream where appropriate.
Treatment sessions
Numbing cream is applied, then the area is treated. Sessions are usually 4 to 6 weeks apart, with settings adjusted to how your skin healed.
Follow-up
Progress is reviewed across the course. Collagen continues to remodel for months after the last session, so final results take time to show.
Stretch marks treatment options explained
Laser treatment. Fractional laser treats tiny columns of skin, leaving healthy skin in between, to trigger new collagen and improve texture. Some lasers can also reduce the redness of early marks. For Indian skin, settings are kept conservative to avoid dark patches.
Microneedling. Fine needles create controlled micro-injuries that stimulate collagen and elastin. It is well suited to darker skin types because it carries a lower risk of pigmentation than stronger resurfacing, and it is often used for white marks.
Scar revision. For stubborn, wide or deep marks, scar revision techniques combine methods over a course to improve texture further. Topical treatment, such as tretinoin, has modest evidence for early red marks, but is not used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Over-the-counter oils and creams moisturise the skin but have little proven effect on existing marks.
Stretch marks treatment cost in Gurgaon
The cost depends on the size of the area, the methods used and the number of sessions your marks need. You receive a written quote after the consultation, before any treatment is booked.
Beware of promises to remove marks
Stretch marks are scars in the deeper skin, and no treatment erases them. Offers promising complete removal in a few sessions set up disappointment. What a course can honestly offer is marks that are softer, flatter and harder to notice, which many people find well worth it.
What to expect from treatment
Most people see a gradual improvement over a course of sessions: red marks fade towards skin colour, and white marks become flatter, narrower and less shiny. Change is slow, because it depends on new collagen forming, and it continues for several months after the final session.
After each session, the area is red and slightly swollen for a day or two, like mild sunburn, and may feel rough as it heals. The main risk in Indian skin is darkening of the treated area, which is reduced by conservative settings, sun protection and adequate gaps between sessions.
Procedures for stretch marks are not done during pregnancy, and most are deferred until after breastfeeding. Moisturising the skin during pregnancy is safe and comfortable, even though it does not reliably prevent marks.
Caring for skin with stretch marks
Helps
- Seeking treatment while marks are still red or pink.
- Keeping weight changes gradual where possible.
- Moisturising regularly to ease itching over new marks.
- Protecting treated areas from the sun during a course.
Avoid
- Using steroid creams on the body without a prescription.
- Paying for products that promise to remove marks completely.
- Using retinoid creams during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Scratching itchy new marks, which can irritate and darken the skin.
Stretch mark care led by a skin specialist
Stretch marks are scars, and treating them well means judging their age and depth, choosing methods that suit darker skin without causing pigmentation, and timing treatment safely around pregnancy and breastfeeding. A dermatologist can also recognise when widespread marks point to a hormonal cause or steroid overuse that needs attention first.
Dr. Tanya Kochhar holds an MBBS from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, an MD in Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy from MGM Medical College, a DNB, and a post-doctoral fellowship in Aesthetic Dermatology (FRGUHS). She is registered with the National Medical Commission and the Delhi Medical Council.
Stretch marks treatment FAQs
Can stretch marks be removed permanently?
Stretch marks cannot be removed completely, because they are scars in the deeper layer of the skin. Treatment can make them noticeably softer, flatter, narrower and closer to your normal skin colour. Newer red marks usually improve more than older white ones. Results that are achieved tend to last, as the new collagen remains.
How much does stretch marks treatment cost in Gurgaon?
At Le Dermaire the cost depends on the area treated, the methods used and the number of sessions your marks need, and is quoted in writing after the consultation. The consultation fee is Rs 1,800. There are no charges that are not quoted to you first.
How many sessions are needed for stretch marks?
Most people need four to six sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart. Older, wider white marks and larger areas often need more. Because improvement depends on new collagen, results build gradually over the course and for several months after the final session, so patience is part of the plan.
Which treatment works best for white stretch marks?
White marks are the most stubborn type. Microneedling and fractional laser, often combined, are commonly used to improve their texture and width, and scar revision techniques may be added for deeper marks. They rarely regain full colour, so the aim is a smoother, less noticeable surface.
Can I get stretch marks treated during pregnancy?
Laser, microneedling and retinoid creams are not used during pregnancy. Gentle moisturisers can ease dryness and itching. Treatment is usually started after delivery, and most procedures are deferred until breastfeeding is complete. Red marks after pregnancy tend to respond well once treatment can safely begin, so there is no need to rush.
Do creams and oils get rid of stretch marks?
Most over-the-counter creams and oils moisturise the skin but have little proven effect on existing stretch marks. Prescription tretinoin has modest evidence for early red marks, outside pregnancy and breastfeeding. For established marks, in-clinic procedures that stimulate collagen usually give a more noticeable improvement over a course.
Is stretch marks treatment safe for Indian skin?
Yes, when methods and settings are chosen for the skin type. Indian skin is prone to darkening after heat or injury, so microneedling and conservative laser settings are generally preferred, with adequate gaps between sessions and sun protection. Mild redness for a day or two is expected after each session.
