PRP and GFC hair treatment in Gurgaon

Growth factors concentrated from your own blood, injected into thinning areas of the scalp. Dr. Tanya Kochhar confirms the cause of your hair loss with trichoscopy first, so PRP or GFC is only offered where it is likely to help.

Quick answer

What is PRP and GFC hair treatment in Gurgaon?

PRP and GFC are scalp injections of growth factors concentrated from your own blood, used to support thinning hair follicles that are still active. At Le Dermaire, Dr. Tanya Kochhar confirms the cause with trichoscopy first. A typical course is 3 to 4 sessions about a month apart, then maintenance, alongside prescribed medical treatment.

What it is

PRP and GFC: what is the difference?

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is made by spinning a small sample of your blood so that the platelets are concentrated in a small volume of plasma. Platelets carry growth factors that are thought to prolong the growth phase of hair follicles and support thicker hair.

GFC (growth factor concentrate) goes a step further: the platelets are activated during processing so that they release their growth factors, and the concentrated factors are injected with fewer cells. Some patients find it more comfortable. Both come from your own blood, so allergy is not a concern, and neither is a stand-alone cure for hair loss.

Whether PRP or GFC suits you better is decided at consultation. The more important question is whether your type of hair loss is likely to respond at all.

Who PRP and GFC can help

These treatments support follicles that are still working. They cannot bring back follicles that have gone.

Good candidates

Men and women with early to moderate androgenetic alopecia, meaning pattern thinning where the scalp still has fine or miniaturised hairs.

Sometimes helpful

Selected cases of chronic shedding or alopecia areata, as part of a wider plan. Dr. Tanya will explain the evidence for your situation.

Not suitable

Completely bald, shiny areas with no follicles left, and scarring alopecias such as lichen planopilaris, which need different, urgent treatment.

Not advised

Blood or platelet disorders, anticoagulant treatment, active scalp infection, uncontrolled illness, pregnancy, or cancer under treatment.

At Le Dermaire

How treatment works

From diagnosis to follow-up, with medical treatment running alongside.

1

Consultation and trichoscopy

Dr. Tanya examines your scalp under magnification, checks your history and medicines, and confirms whether your hair loss is the kind that PRP or GFC can help. Tests are advised if needed.

2

Preparation

A small blood sample is drawn from your arm and processed in a sterile, closed system to prepare PRP or GFC. A numbing cream may be applied to the scalp meanwhile.

3

Scalp injections

The concentrate is injected with a fine needle into the thinning areas in a grid pattern. Sessions are usually about a month apart for the first three to four.

4

Review and maintenance

Progress is checked with photographs and trichoscopy. If the result is worth keeping, maintenance sessions are spaced out, usually every few months.

Why PRP works best alongside medical treatment

Pattern hair loss is driven by genetics and hormones that continue to act on the follicles between sessions. PRP and GFC support the follicles but do not switch off that process, which is why they are usually combined with prescribed medical treatment such as topical minoxidil or oral medicines chosen for you.

Used together, the two tend to give a better and longer-lasting result than either alone. PRP or GFC can also be a useful addition for people who have plateaued on medicines, or who want to add something without increasing their tablets.

Improvement is gradual. Most people who respond notice less shedding first, with thickness building over several months. Not everyone responds, and if you do not after a fair trial, Dr. Tanya will say so rather than continue selling sessions.

PRP or GFC: which is better for hair loss?

Both come from your own blood and support the same follicles; the main difference is how the concentrate is prepared.

What a low price can leave out

The quality of PRP depends on how the blood is collected and processed: the kit, the centrifuge protocol and sterile handling. Cheaper sessions sometimes cut corners here, giving a weaker concentrate. Just as important, PRP on the wrong type of hair loss is money spent for no benefit, which is why diagnosis comes first.

Safety

Is PRP or GFC safe?

Because the concentrate is made from your own blood, allergic reactions are very unlikely. The common after-effects are tenderness, mild swelling, a feeling of tightness and small pinpoint marks on the scalp, which usually settle within one to two days. Swelling can occasionally track down to the forehead briefly.

Less common effects include bruising, a headache after the session, and, rarely, infection at an injection site. Sterile technique and a clean scalp keep this risk low. Some people feel light-headed during the blood draw, which is why eating beforehand helps.

Tell the clinic about blood thinners, aspirin or painkillers such as ibuprofen, any bleeding disorder, and any scalp infection or sores. Some medicines may need to be paused before a session, but only on your doctor's advice.

Why a dermatologist

PRP and GFC planned by a dermatologist

The biggest factor in whether PRP helps is choosing the right patient. A dermatologist can distinguish pattern hair loss from telogen effluvium, alopecia areata and scarring alopecia on trichoscopy, identify thyroid, iron or hormonal causes that need treating first, and combine the procedure with medicines that address what drives the thinning.

Dr. Tanya Kochhar holds an MBBS from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, an MD in Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy from MGM Medical College, a DNB, and a post-doctoral fellowship in Aesthetic Dermatology (FRGUHS). She is registered with the National Medical Commission and the Delhi Medical Council.

Common questions

PRP and GFC hair treatment FAQs

What is the difference between PRP and GFC for hair?

Both are prepared from your own blood. PRP concentrates the platelets in plasma, while GFC activates the platelets during processing so that their growth factors are released and concentrated, with fewer cells injected. Both aim to support active follicles. Which one suits you is discussed at consultation, along with whether either is likely to help.

How many PRP sessions are needed for hair loss?

A typical course is three to four sessions about a month apart, followed by maintenance sessions every few months if the result is worth keeping. The exact schedule depends on the type and extent of your hair loss and how you respond, which is reviewed with photographs and trichoscopy.

How much does PRP hair treatment cost in Gurgaon?

At Le Dermaire the cost depends on whether PRP or GFC is used and on the number of sessions, and is quoted in writing after the consultation and trichoscopy. The consultation fee is Rs 1,800. There are no charges that are not quoted to you first, and nothing is booked until you have the quote.

Is the result of PRP permanent?

No. PRP and GFC support follicles but do not stop the genetic and hormonal process behind pattern hair loss. Without maintenance and medical treatment, thinning usually continues over time. Most people who respond keep their result with maintenance sessions every few months alongside prescribed medicines.

Does PRP hair treatment hurt?

The scalp injections sting briefly, and the scalp may feel tender afterwards. A numbing cream, cooling and a fine needle make it manageable for most people. Some patients find GFC slightly more comfortable. Any tenderness usually settles within a day or two, and most people return to work the same day.

Can PRP or GFC regrow hair on a bald patch?

Not on areas that are completely bald and shiny, where the follicles are no longer present. PRP and GFC work on follicles that are still active but thinning. They are also not suitable for scarring alopecia. For advanced baldness, a hair transplant assessment may be a more realistic option.

Who should not have PRP for hair?

PRP and GFC are not advised for people with blood or platelet disorders, those on anticoagulants, anyone with an active scalp infection, during pregnancy, or during cancer treatment. Uncontrolled diabetes or other illness may also need to be addressed first. Your medical history is reviewed at consultation before any session.
