Scar treatment in Gurgaon
Surgical, injury, burn and depressed scars assessed and treated by dermatologist Dr. Tanya Kochhar. Scars can be made flatter, softer, smoother and less noticeable. They cannot be erased, and a good plan says so from the start.
How are scars treated in Gurgaon?
Scars can be made flatter, softer and less noticeable, though not erased. At Le Dermaire, Dr. Tanya Kochhar assesses each scar's type, age, height or depth and colour, then combines two or three methods, such as steroid injections for raised scars or biofiller for depressed ones. Sessions are typically spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, with progress tracked by photographs.
Scar treatment, in short
General figures for scar care. Your plan depends on the type of scar, its age, where it is and your skin type.
Improvement, not erasure
A scar is the body's permanent repair of damaged skin, and its collagen is laid down differently from the skin around it. Treatment changes how a scar looks and feels, lowering raised scars, lifting depressed ones, softening tightness, reducing itch and evening out colour, but it does not turn scar tissue back into untouched skin. Anyone promising complete removal is overselling.
Timing matters. A new scar is often red, raised or itchy for months and then gradually flattens and pales over 12 to 18 months. Some treatments work better early, while the scar is still active; others, such as resurfacing for texture, are usually better once it has settled. Dr. Tanya plans around where your scar is in that timeline.
A scar that keeps growing beyond the original wound, bleeds, ulcerates or changes suddenly should be examined promptly. Rarely, a long-standing scar can change in ways that need a biopsy.
Silicone and sun protection, started early
Once a wound has fully closed and any stitches are out, silicone gel or sheets are the most consistently supported home measure for new scars. Used daily for at least two to three months, they help keep the scar hydrated and flatter, and reduce redness and itch. They are particularly worth using after surgery on the chest, shoulders or jawline, where scars are more likely to thicken.
Sun protection matters just as much on Indian skin. A new scar darkens easily with ultraviolet light and heat, and that brown colour can outlast the scar's redness by many months. Broad-spectrum sunscreen, clothing or a dressing over the scar for the first year makes a visible difference to the final result.
Gentle massage with a plain moisturiser, once the skin is healed, can help with tightness. If a scar is getting thicker, itchier or wider rather than settling, that is the moment to be seen, not a year later.
Scar treatments explained here
Treatments used across many kinds of scar. Laser and scar-type guides follow below.
Intralesional steroid injection
A corticosteroid, most often triamcinolone, is injected directly into a lesion to reduce inflammation and excess collagen. It is a mainstay for keloids and thickened hypertrophic scars, and outside scars it is used for patches of alopecia areata, painful cystic acne nodules and some stubborn plaques of lichen planus or psoriasis. Injections are usually repeated every 3 to 6 weeks. Side effects include thinning or a small dent in the surrounding skin, lightening of colour that is more noticeable on darker skin, and visible small blood vessels, so doses are kept low and response is checked each time.
PRF for scars
Platelet-rich fibrin, prepared from your own blood, is placed into or under a depressed scar, often immediately after subcision or microneedling. The fibrin gel acts as a temporary scaffold that may help the released scar stay lifted and support collagen formation as it heals. Improvement is gradual over several sessions, and PRF is a supporting treatment rather than a stand-alone one. For acne scars specifically, the acne scar guide explains how it is combined.
Biofiller for depressed scars
Biofiller refers to a filler placed beneath a depressed scar to lift it to the level of the surrounding skin, often after subcision has released the tethering bands. The term is used for different materials, including gels prepared from your own plasma and some hyaluronic acid based fillers, and the one used is explained at consultation. Results are immediate but temporary, typically lasting several months depending on the material, with top-ups or collagen-building treatments to maintain them.
Scars from surgery, injury and illness
Surgical scars
Caesarean, abdominal, chest and other surgical scars are often red and raised for the first months. Early silicone and sunscreen come first; if the scar starts thickening, steroid injections can flatten it, and once it has matured, fractional laser or microneedling can improve texture and colour. Treatment is usually started only after your surgeon confirms the wound has healed fully.
Post-traumatic and burn scars
Scars from cuts, falls, road accidents and burns vary widely in depth, colour and tightness. Dermatological treatment can improve texture, raised areas, pigment and itch using injections, laser, microneedling and careful skincare. Fresh burns are managed as wounds first, and extensive burn scars or those restricting movement need assessment by a plastic surgeon, with dermatology care alongside.
Atrophic (depressed) scars
Sunken scars outside acne, such as those left by chickenpox, old infections, insect bites or minor injuries, form where collagen was lost during healing. Depending on depth and edges, they are treated with subcision, microneedling, fractional laser, biofiller or a combination. Thinning caused by steroid creams or injections is assessed separately, as it sometimes recovers on its own.

Assessment
Dr. Tanya looks at the scar's type, age, height or depth, colour and tightness, asks how it formed, and checks for any tendency to keloids.
Plan
You are told what improvement is realistic, which treatments suit this scar at this stage, how many sessions to expect and what each will cost.
Treatment
Sessions are spaced to let the skin heal and remodel between them. Methods are combined or switched according to how the scar responds.
Photographs and review
Standardised photographs taken at the start make progress easier to judge, since scars change slowly and gradual improvement is easy to miss.
Scar treatment cost in Gurgaon
The cost depends on the scar's size and type, the treatments used and the number of sessions. You receive a written quote after the consultation, before any treatment is booked.
Paying for a realistic result
Scar treatment is a course, not a single appointment, and the aim is steady improvement. A clear estimate of sessions and outcome at the start is worth more than a low first-session price that assumes one visit will do.
Scar care led by a skin specialist
Scars sit at the meeting point of wound healing, pigment and collagen, and each behaves differently on Indian skin. A dermatologist can judge where a scar is in its maturation, recognise early keloid behaviour, choose between injection, laser and filler, and know when a plastic surgeon should be involved, which is how Dr. Tanya approaches every scar plan.
Dr. Tanya Kochhar holds an MBBS from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, an MD in Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy from MGM Medical College, a DNB, and a post-doctoral fellowship in Aesthetic Dermatology (FRGUHS). She is registered with the National Medical Commission and the Delhi Medical Council.
Scar treatment FAQs
Can scars be removed completely?
No. Scar tissue is permanent, so the honest goal is improvement: flatter, softer, smoother and closer in colour to the surrounding skin. Many people reach a point where the scar is far less noticeable and no longer a concern. How much improvement is realistic depends on the scar type, its depth and your skin, and is discussed at consultation.
When should I start treating a new scar?
Silicone gel or sheets and sun protection can start as soon as the wound has closed. A scar that is thickening, itching or spreading should be seen early, because raised scars respond better while still active. Texture treatments such as laser are usually timed for later, once the scar has begun to mature.
How much does scar treatment cost in Gurgaon?
At Le Dermaire the cost depends on the type and size of the scar, the treatments used and the number of sessions, and is quoted in writing after the consultation. The consultation fee is Rs 1,800. There are no charges that are not quoted to you first.
How many sessions will I need?
Most scars need several sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, and raised scars treated with injections may need a series over some months. Small, recent scars often respond faster than large or old ones. You are given an estimated range at the start, and the plan is adjusted according to how your scar responds.
Is scar treatment safe for darker skin?
Yes, with the right precautions. Darker skin is more prone to dark patches after laser or injury and to lightening after steroid injections, so settings and doses are kept conservative, sun protection is strict and the skin is sometimes prepared beforehand. These are the main reasons scar treatment should be dermatologist-led.
Do scar creams and oils work?
Silicone gel has the most consistent support for new scars. Many other creams and oils have little evidence beyond keeping the skin moisturised, which helps comfort but does not reshape a scar. For established raised or depressed scars, in-clinic treatment usually makes a larger difference than any cream.
