Under-eye filler (tear trough filler) in Gurgaon
Under-eye filler can soften a hollow that makes you look tired, but it suits fewer people than most clinics suggest. Dermatologist Dr. Tanya Kochhar first checks whether your concern is a hollow, a bag or pigment, and only recommends filler when it is likely to help.
Is under eye filler in Gurgaon right for me?
Under eye filler in Gurgaon is a small amount of soft hyaluronic acid gel placed deep along the tear trough to soften a hollow that casts a shadow. It suits true hollowing with good skin quality, not puffy bags or pigment. At Le Dermaire, Dr. Tanya Kochhar assesses which you have first. Results are visible once swelling settles and often last around a year.
Under-eye filler, in short
Typical figures for hyaluronic acid filler in the tear trough. Your own plan depends on your anatomy, skin quality and the product used.
What under-eye filler does
The tear trough is the groove that runs from the inner corner of the eye down and out towards the cheek. With age, the fat and bone support beneath it thin out and the cheek sits a little lower, so the groove deepens. In some people it is inherited and visible from their twenties. Overhead light then catches the edge of the groove and leaves a shadow that reads as tiredness or a dark circle.
Under-eye filler is a soft hyaluronic acid gel placed deep beneath the groove to restore some of that lost support. It does not lighten skin, tighten loose skin or remove a bag. It softens a shadow by lifting the floor of the hollow, which is why choosing the right candidate matters more here than almost anywhere else on the face.
A simple mirror test: stand under an overhead light and tilt your chin down. If the darkness deepens and has a sharp edge, a hollow is casting a shadow. If it stays the same colour when you gently stretch the skin, pigment is likely. If the area bulges more when you look up, a fat pad is involved.
Under-eye hollows, bags or pigment: which do you have?
These three look alike in photos and are often sold the same treatment. They are different problems, and filler only helps one of them.
| Hollow (tear trough) | Bags and puffiness / Pigment | |
|---|---|---|
| What you see | A groove or sunken shadow, worse under overhead light. | Bags: a bulge or puffiness, often worse in the morning. Pigment: brown or grey skin colour that does not change with light. |
| What causes it | Loss of fat and bone support, cheek descent, or inherited anatomy. | Bags: fat pads pushing forward, fluid retention, allergy or loose skin. Pigment: excess melanin, often familial in Indian skin. |
| Does filler help? | Often, when skin quality is good and there is no significant bag. | Bags: usually not, and filler can make them look heavier. Pigment: no, filler adds no colour change. |
| What helps instead | Filler; sometimes skin quality treatments alongside. | Bags: treating allergy or fluid, or eyelid surgery (lower blepharoplasty) for true fat bags. Pigment: creams, peels or laser. |
| Who to see | A doctor trained in facial injection. | Bags: a dermatologist first, and an oculoplastic or plastic surgeon for surgery. Pigment: a dermatologist. |
Many people have a mix, for example a mild hollow with pigment on top. The plan treats each part with the right tool, often in stages.
Who is a good candidate for tear trough filler?
Usually suitable
- A visible groove or hollow under the eye, with little or no bulging fat pad.
- Reasonably firm, smooth skin under the eye, without heavy crepiness or excess skin.
- No regular morning puffiness or fluid swelling around the eyes.
- Realistic aims: a softer shadow and a more rested look, not a perfectly flat under-eye.
- Good general health and no active skin condition around the eyes.
Usually better treated another way
- Prominent under-eye bags or fat pads, which tend to need surgery rather than filler.
- Puffiness that comes and goes, from allergy, poor sleep, salt or a medical cause.
- Very thin or loose under-eye skin, where filler is more likely to show or swell.
- Darkness that is mainly pigment, which needs skin treatment rather than volume.
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding, active eczema, infection, or permanent filler injected before.
How under-eye filler is done
Four stages. Nothing is injected on the day unless you are ready and the assessment supports it.
Assessment
Dr. Tanya examines your under-eyes seated and upright, in different light and with your eyes looking up and down, to separate hollow, bag and pigment. Medical history, allergies, medicines and any previous fillers are reviewed.
Plan & consent
You hear whether filler is likely to help, what else might be better, the expected result, risks and how long it lasts, with a written quote before signing consent.
Treatment
After cleansing and numbing, a small amount of soft filler is placed deep, close to the bone, using a fine cannula or needle. The amount is deliberately conservative.
Review
At about two weeks, once swelling has settled, the result is checked. If a little more is needed, it is added then rather than on the first day.
Why under-eye filler is done conservatively
The skin under the eye is among the thinnest on the body, the area drains fluid slowly and it sits close to important blood vessels. That combination is why the under-eye is treated with less product, softer gels and deeper placement than the cheeks or lips.
A 2020 set of expert recommendations on treating the tear trough with hyaluronic acid filler, by Anido and colleagues in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, captures the cautious approach most experienced injectors follow: assess the patient sitting up, where the groove is seen best; choose a filler with low cross-linking that draws in little water; place it deep rather than just under the skin; keep to a small volume, no more than about 0.5 ml per side in one session; and deliberately under-correct, waiting around four weeks for the gel to settle before any top-up. The same paper lists marked fat pad bulging, under-eye swelling, very loose skin and previous permanent filler among the reasons to avoid or reconsider filler.
In practice this means your first session may look softer than you hoped, by design. A small top-up at review is safer, and easier to adjust, than too much on day one.
Be wary of a plan that uses a large amount of filler under the eyes in a single sitting or promises to remove bags. Overfilling is the most common reason under-eye filler looks puffy months later.
What results to expect, and how long under-eye filler lasts
The groove looks softer straight away, but the first few days include some swelling and sometimes bruising, so the real result is judged at about two weeks. A good result is subtle: less shadow, a smoother line from lower eyelid to cheek, and a face that looks rested rather than changed. Pigment and fine crepey lines stay as they were unless they are treated separately.
Because the under-eye moves little, hyaluronic acid filler here often lasts around 9 to 12 months and sometimes longer, depending on the product, the amount and your own metabolism. It fades gradually rather than suddenly, and many people choose a smaller top-up when the shadow starts to return.
Other under-eye treatments, and when they fit better
Filler is one option among several. These are the alternatives most often discussed, each explained on its own page.
Dark circles treatment
When the darkness is mainly pigment or visible vessels rather than a hollow, prescription creams, gentle peels or laser are used instead of volume. Many people have both, and the pigment is treated first or alongside.

Very fine hyaluronic acid injections improve hydration and the quality of thin, crepey under-eye skin without adding volume. They suit fine lines and dullness better than a deep groove.

Platelet-rich plasma prepared from your own blood is sometimes used to improve thin under-eye skin. Results are gradual and modest, and it does not fill a hollow the way filler does.

Under-eye rejuvenation combines skin quality treatments for fine lines and texture as part of a wider anti-ageing plan. True under-eye bags from bulging fat, or a large amount of loose skin, are a different matter: they are best treated surgically by an oculoplastic or plastic surgeon, and a dermatologist can tell you honestly when that is the better route.

The cost of under-eye filler depends on the filler product, how much is needed for your hollows and whether a top-up is required at review. You receive a written quote after the consultation, before any injection.
Why the cheapest under-eye filler can cost more
Under-eye complications such as persistent swelling, a bluish tinge or lumps often need dissolving and retreatment, which costs more than doing it carefully once. A registered product, a doctor who can manage problems, and a plan that sometimes says no are worth more than a low per-syringe price.
Under eye filler side effects and safety
Common, temporary effects are bruising, swelling, tenderness and small injection marks, which usually settle within a week. Swelling can be uneven for a few days and is not a sign that the result will stay that way.
Problems more specific to the under-eye include persistent puffiness, when filler draws in water or too much has been placed; a bluish tinge, called the Tyndall effect, when filler sits too close to the surface; and small lumps. These are reduced by soft products, deep placement and small amounts, and are usually corrected by dissolving the filler with hyaluronidase.
The most serious risk, which is rare, is filler entering or pressing on a blood vessel. Near the eye this can damage skin and, very rarely, affect vision. It is a medical emergency, which is why under-eye filler should only be done by a medically trained doctor who knows the anatomy, recognises warning signs at once and can act immediately.
Contact the clinic urgently, or go to an emergency department, if you notice severe pain, skin turning pale, blotchy or dusky, or any change in vision after filler.
Before and after under-eye filler
Before
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours beforehand to reduce bruising.
- Where your doctor agrees, pause supplements such as fish oil or vitamin E for a few days.
- Do not stop any prescribed blood thinner without medical advice.
- Book at least two to three weeks before a wedding or major event, to allow for swelling and review.
After
- Use cold compresses gently in short spells for the first day if there is swelling.
- Sleep with your head slightly raised for the first couple of nights.
- Avoid rubbing the eyes, heavy exercise, saunas and steam for a few days.
- Skip eye makeup on the injection points until the next day, then apply gently.
Common mistakes with under-eye filler, and when not to have it
Treating the wrong problem. The most common mistake is filling an under-eye that is dark from pigment or puffy from fat and fluid. The shadow stays, and the area can look heavier. If your darkness does not change with light, or you wake up puffy, filler is unlikely to be the first answer.
Chasing a perfectly flat under-eye. Some contour is normal. Trying to erase it completely usually means too much product and a swollen look later. A softer shadow is the realistic goal.
Choosing on price or speed. Under-eye filler is a medical procedure in a delicate area. Ask who will inject, what product is used, whether hyaluronidase is available on site and what happens if you are unhappy at review. Do not have it during pregnancy or breastfeeding, during an allergy or eczema flare around the eyes, or within a short time of an important event.
Under-eye filler planned by a dermatologist
Most under-eye concerns are a mix of hollowing, pigment, thin skin, allergy and puffiness. A dermatologist can separate these, treat the parts that filler cannot reach, decide honestly when filler is not the right tool, and place it with the care the under-eye needs. Under-eye filler is offered at Le Dermaire as part of its injectable treatments, alongside the other options above.

Under-eye filler FAQs
How long does under eye filler last?
Under-eye hyaluronic acid filler often lasts around 9 to 12 months, and sometimes longer, because the area moves little. How long it lasts depends on the product, the amount used and your metabolism. It fades gradually, and many people have a smaller top-up when the shadow begins to return.
Does under eye filler get rid of dark circles?
Only dark circles caused by a hollow casting a shadow. Filler does not lighten pigment, and it does not shrink puffy bags. Many people have a mix of hollow and pigment, so filler may soften the shadow while creams, peels or laser are needed for the colour.
Can filler fix under-eye bags?
Usually not. Bags from bulging fat pads or fluid can look larger after filler. Mild cases where a hollow sits just below a small bulge can sometimes be blended carefully, but prominent bags are generally better treated with lower eyelid surgery by an oculoplastic or plastic surgeon.
Does under eye filler hurt?
Most people find it tolerable. A numbing cream is applied first, most fillers contain a local anaesthetic, and a fine cannula is often used, which reduces the number of entry points. You may feel pressure and brief stinging, and the area can feel tender for a few days.
What are the side effects of tear trough filler?
Bruising, swelling and tenderness are common and usually settle within a week. Less often, filler can cause lasting puffiness, a bluish tinge if placed too superficially, or small lumps, which can usually be corrected by dissolving it. Rarely, filler can block a blood vessel, which is an emergency.
Can under eye filler be dissolved?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, injected by a doctor, and it usually breaks down within a day or two. This is used for lumps, puffiness, a bluish tinge or an unwanted result, and urgently if a blood vessel is affected.
How much does under eye filler cost in Gurgaon?
At Le Dermaire the cost depends on the filler product and how much your hollows need, and whether a top-up is required at review. It is quoted in writing after the consultation, before any injection. The consultation fee is Rs 1,800, and nothing is charged that has not been quoted first.
