Excessive sweating treatment in Gurgaon
Sweating that soaks clothes, drips from the hands or gets in the way of work and social life is a recognised medical condition. Dermatologist Dr. Tanya Kochhar checks the cause and builds a stepwise plan to bring it under control.
How is excessive sweating treated in Gurgaon?
Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, is treated stepwise, starting with an aluminium chloride antiperspirant, then iontophoresis, injections or tablets if needed. At Le Dermaire, Dr. Tanya Kochhar first checks for causes such as thyroid problems, diabetes or medicines. Underarm botulinum toxin injections typically give several months of relief. Most treatments control sweating and need continuing.
Excessive sweating, in short
The main points. Your plan depends on which areas sweat, whether there is an underlying cause and how much it affects daily life.
What is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis means sweating more than the body needs to control its temperature. In primary focal hyperhidrosis, the commonest form, the sweat glands are normal but are overstimulated by the nerves that control them. It affects specific areas, usually the underarms, palms, soles or face, on both sides, typically begins in childhood or adolescence, often runs in families and usually stops during sleep.
Secondary hyperhidrosis is sweating caused by something else: an overactive thyroid, diabetes and low blood sugar episodes, menopause, infection, some medicines including certain antidepressants, and less commonly other medical conditions. It tends to start later in life, affect the whole body or one side, or happen at night. Finding and treating the cause is the priority.
See a doctor promptly if heavy sweating starts suddenly in adult life, happens mainly at night, or comes with weight loss, fever, a racing heart or chest pain. These need medical assessment rather than an antiperspirant.
Areas affected, and the effect on daily life
Hyperhidrosis is often dismissed as a minor nuisance, but for many people it shapes what they wear, what work they do and how they meet others.
Underarms
Sweat patches that soak shirts within minutes, regardless of the weather. Many people change clothes during the day or only wear dark colours.
Palms
Wet hands that drip onto paper, keyboards and phones, and make handshakes, writing exams and some jobs difficult.
Soles
Wet socks and slippery sandals, foot odour and a higher risk of fungal infection, pitted keratolysis and blisters.
Face and scalp
Sweat running down the forehead during meetings or meals. Sweating triggered only by eating needs its own assessment.
Skin problems
Constant moisture encourages fungal and bacterial infections, eczema and body odour, especially in Gurgaon's heat and humidity.
Emotional impact
Embarrassment, avoiding handshakes or social events and anxiety, which can make sweating worse. It is worth treating properly.
How excessive sweating is treated
Check the cause, start with the simplest effective step, and move up only if needed.
Assessment
Dr. Tanya asks when the sweating started, which areas are affected, whether it happens during sleep, and about your medicines and general health, then examines the skin.
Tests where needed
If a secondary cause is suspected, blood tests such as thyroid function and blood sugar may be advised before local treatment is started.
Stepwise treatment
Prescription antiperspirant first for most areas, then procedures or tablets if that is not enough, chosen for the area and your preferences.
Review
Follow-up to judge the effect, manage any irritation or side effects, treat associated skin infections and plan repeat treatment.
Hyperhidrosis treatment options explained
Aluminium chloride antiperspirants are the first step for underarms, palms and soles. They are applied at night to completely dry skin, washed off in the morning, used nightly until sweating is controlled and then once or twice a week. Stinging and irritation are the main side effects and can be reduced by correct application and a mild steroid cream if needed.
Iontophoresis is well suited to sweaty palms and soles. The hands or feet sit in shallow trays of tap water while a mild electrical current passes through, which reduces sweat gland activity. Sessions are repeated several times a week at first and then for maintenance; home devices are also available. It may be recommended where antiperspirants are not enough.
Botulinum toxin injections block the nerve signal that switches on the sweat glands. For the underarms, small amounts are injected into the skin in a grid pattern in one short session; sweating usually falls noticeably within one to two weeks and relief commonly lasts several months before a repeat treatment. It can also be used for the palms, though injections there are more uncomfortable. The same medicine used for wrinkles is described on the Botox and fillers page; for sweating the dose and technique are different.
Oral anticholinergic tablets reduce sweating across the whole body and are useful when several areas are affected or other treatments have not worked. Dry mouth, dry eyes, constipation and blurred vision are common side effects, and they are unsuitable for some people, for example those with glaucoma or urinary problems, so they are prescribed carefully at the lowest effective dose.
Hyperhidrosis treatment cost in Gurgaon
The cost depends on the areas affected and the treatment chosen. Antiperspirants and tablets are bought from a pharmacy; injections and any in-clinic procedure are quoted in writing after the consultation, before anything is booked.
Start simple
Many people assume injections are the only real answer. A correctly used prescription antiperspirant controls sweating well for a large number of people at very low cost, and it is sensible to try it properly before moving to procedures.
Results, side effects and surgery
Most treatments for hyperhidrosis reduce sweating rather than stopping it for good, and need to be continued or repeated. Antiperspirants and iontophoresis work over a few weeks of regular use; botulinum toxin works within days to two weeks and wears off gradually over months. The aim is dry enough to stop thinking about it, not completely dry skin.
After underarm injections some people notice slightly more sweating elsewhere, and palm injections can cause brief, mild weakness of grip. Surgery to cut the sympathetic nerves in the chest is a last resort for severe palm sweating; it often causes heavy compensatory sweating on the back, chest or legs that can be worse than the original problem, so it is approached with great caution.
Botulinum toxin injections are not given during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or to people with certain neuromuscular conditions. Tell the clinic about all your medicines and health conditions before treatment.
Everyday measures that help
Helps
- Applying antiperspirant at night to fully dry skin, not after a shower in the morning.
- Loose, breathable clothing in cotton, linen or moisture-wicking fabric.
- Absorbent socks changed during the day, and leather or open footwear rotated to dry.
- Underarm shields or an extra layer on important days.
- Treating fungal infection or odour on the feet and in the folds promptly.
Avoid
- Applying aluminium chloride to damp, freshly shaved or broken skin.
- Tight synthetic clothing and non-breathable shoes in hot weather.
- Assuming new, heavy night sweating is just hyperhidrosis without a check-up.
- Buying tablets for sweating without a prescription.
- Surgery before simpler treatments have been tried properly.
Sweating assessed by a dermatologist
Excessive sweating is sometimes a sign of another condition, and the right treatment depends on the area and the cause. A dermatologist looks for secondary causes, treats the skin infections and eczema that constant moisture brings, and offers the full stepwise range, from antiperspirants to injections, with realistic expectations about how long each lasts.

Hyperhidrosis FAQs
Is excessive sweating a medical condition?
Yes. Hyperhidrosis is a recognised condition in which the body produces far more sweat than it needs to stay cool. Primary hyperhidrosis often starts in childhood or the teenage years and runs in families. Secondary hyperhidrosis is caused by another condition or medicine. Both can be assessed and treated by a dermatologist.
Can hyperhidrosis be cured permanently?
For most people hyperhidrosis is controlled rather than cured. Antiperspirants, iontophoresis, injections and tablets all reduce sweating well but need to be continued or repeated. Primary hyperhidrosis sometimes eases with age. If sweating has a secondary cause such as an overactive thyroid, treating that cause can resolve it.
How much does hyperhidrosis treatment cost in Gurgaon?
At Le Dermaire the cost depends on the area affected and the treatment chosen. Prescription antiperspirants and tablets are bought from a pharmacy, while injections are priced by the area and quoted in writing after assessment. The consultation fee is Rs 1,800. There are no charges that are not quoted to you first.
How long does Botox for underarm sweating last?
Botulinum toxin injections for underarm sweating usually start working within one to two weeks, and the effect commonly lasts several months, varying from person to person. Sweating then returns gradually and the treatment can be repeated. It is a short in-clinic procedure with no downtime for most people.
What helps sweaty palms?
A prescription aluminium chloride solution applied at night is the usual first step. If that is not enough, iontophoresis, in which the hands rest in tap water while a mild current passes through, is effective for many people. Botulinum toxin injections and oral tablets are further options, each with trade-offs discussed at consultation.
Could my sweating be caused by something else?
Sometimes. Sweating that starts in adulthood, affects the whole body, happens mainly at night, or comes with weight loss, fever, palpitations or other symptoms can be caused by thyroid problems, diabetes, infections, menopause or medicines. Dr. Tanya asks about these and may suggest blood tests before treating the sweating itself.
Are anticholinergic tablets for sweating safe?
They can be used safely in suitable people under medical supervision, but side effects such as dry mouth, dry eyes, constipation, blurred vision and difficulty passing urine are common. They are unsuitable with some conditions, such as glaucoma. They are prescribed at the lowest effective dose and reviewed regularly, never bought without a prescription.
